Petitioning in Prayer

I am so thankful to be back with you this month! We are continuing in our “Pray Girl Pray” year-long prayer series for Warrior Woman. Last month, I paused to do this thing called “getting married!” It was truly a joyous occasion, and I am still celebrating being a newlywed! God exceeded my prayer petitions and proved himself faithful once more in my life.

As we focus this month on “Petitioning in Prayer,” it is important to me to really stress the value of being specific in your prayers. Honestly, I cannot emphasize this point enough. I know that we will not always know exactly what to pray, and that is part of our human nature. But I also know that sometimes we can be intimidated, or even afraid to speak everything that is in our heart. Sis., do not let fear grip you into believing you should not pray about absolutely everything! God can handle all of your requests.

Prayers of petition are a perfect way for us to be specific and go deeper with God. We do not ever have to be overly concerned about not asking for the correct thing, because God will ultimately align our desires with His sovereign will concerning us. More than praying perfectly, just be open to giving all of your concerns over to God – tell Him all about it and do not leave anything out. We do not ever have to “spare God the details” because He wants to hear us share what is on our mind.

In 1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) it says,

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

- The first part of petitioning God in prayer involves us having confidence to approach God about anything.

- The second part of petitioning God in prayer involves us having faith to believe He attentively listens to our petitions.

- The third part of petitioning God in prayer involves us trusting God for His divine answer to our prayer.

While you confidently wait on God, abide in hope. Hope gives us expectancy that our answers are on the way. We know by faith, whatever we have prayed about is already done in the spirit realm. But sometimes, it takes a while for it to catch up here on earth. When we wait with hope, we will have anticipatory joy as we wait. When we worry while we wait, we experience anxiety over our future or the outcome.

God invites us to be confident in Him, pray according to His will, and rest in His faithfulness to make all things well with and for us. We can do that Sis.! It is possible because of God’s grace! Petitioning God in prayer reflects our level of trust in God and puts us in agreement with His lordship over our lives. That is all the faith we need to keep praying confidently and believing we have a good Father who has great things reserved for us. Don’t stop praying, keep letting your petitions be made known in your place of prayer.
